Character Consistency
Character Consistency
Use this when the comic has recurring characters.
When You Need Character Definitions
Create character definitions when:
- the same person appears on multiple pages
- the comic uses student / mentor roles
- the protagonist is a historical figure
- emotional continuity matters
You can skip full character sheets when the comic is object-led, symbolic, or mostly diagrammatic.
Minimum Character Definition
For each recurring character, define:
- role
- age range
- face shape
- hair
- build
- distinguishing features
- default outfit
- color palette
- expression range
Why It Matters
Without a unified definition, the model drifts:
- face changes
- clothes change
- color palette shifts
- emotional expression becomes random
Reference Sheet Rule
When possible, create a character reference sheet before generating multiple pages.
Useful views:
- front view
- 3/4 view
- neutral expression
- happy / focused / confused expressions
Practical Advice
- use distinctive silhouettes
- keep costume logic simple
- define 2-3 anchor colors per character
- give each character one memorable prop or trait
If a character is mostly functional, simplify instead of over-designing.
